Dear Reader,
Thank you for landing at The Small Print. I am very glad to meet you.
My name is Diana and I am the author of this content. Since a very young age, I have been an avid and curious student of life, human health, psychology, and science overall. I am also a natural communicator who loves to share and connect with others, fostering a safe space for intellectual exchange.
Because of this curiosity, my background developed into a strong interdisciplinary one, absorbing knowledge in Human Medicine, Life Sciences, Psychology, Bioinformatics, and Data Science. I went from Medical School in my home country, Ecuador, to moving to Canada at age 24, where I studied biology and psychology and did clinical research. Eventually, I ended up in Germany once I turned 30 to pursue my Dr. rer. nat. (in global terms, a PhD), where I learned a lot about the heart and its connection with the immune system. After crossing that finish line, I moved into Data Science, surrounding myself with bioinformaticians, developers, and engineers.
The art of communication has always been a present part of my student life. Since my high school years, I enjoyed very much being part of the journalism club, and once I moved to Canada, being part of a local community radio station, CJSR 88.5 FM. There, I was able to share content with a lovely audience of listeners and other radio producers and programmers. It was one of the highlights of my activities during my years as a master's student.
I believe I chose this unconventional learning path knowing deeply that it would all serve one purpose: to curate, understand, and communicate science with transparency for an audience like you. I hope that you find in The Small Print a place to understand science without needing to become an academic or losing the important details of what scientists are working on nowadays. As we walk through life, explore the world, and relate to others, we all become scientists in our daily lives attempting to understand life around us.
Thanks for reading me, and I hope you become a regular visitor.
Diana
